Get Your Mittens!

What better way to cover your hand in the snowy months of winter than with a mitten. Chances are your grandmother, your grandfather, your parents and yourself have grabbed a pair of mittens before walking out the door and have been thankful you did just so. Mittens are warmer than gloves, keeping the fingers close together. More surface area increases more heat.

There are many types of mittens! Let us inform you..

 Pop Tops
All the rage for any age. Carolina Amato creates a new mitten for today's fashionista known as the pop top. Practical, funtional and convertable is the definition of this warm mitten and fingerless glove in one. Just pull back the top, and button to secure!

Recycled Felted Wool Sweater

Recycled felted wool sweater is quite simply something NEW from something OLD. Manufactures have had such a hard time keeping up with the demand of wool that they've added recycled wool to many of their products. Recycled wool can feel more harsh and fuzzy than regular wool, however is more hard wearing, thus longer lasting. Wool as well as recycled wool, also picks up water very well without feeling very wet. EXCELLENT FOR SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING!
Available in several colors, GUARANTEED one of a kind design!

Mini Mittens

Perfect for infants and toddlers! Like an adult mitten but much, much smaller!

DID YOU KNOW? In 2007 Mittens was the most popular name given to newly born cats in America.

Buying dresses at the glove shop

Funky Chic Dress Coat
Available in the shop only
970-453-0200
Sounds funny but Hand and Glove is one of the best places in town to get a fantastic dress, cashmere sweater or incredibly stylish coat!  And of course all the gloves would look superb with the apparel that I find.

From time to time I search for items that you moist certainly wont come across anywhere.  We search consignment shops for designer labels, we seach the convention show floor for a new line that knocks our socks of and we listen to almost every little sales rep that comes along.

From the Hand and Glove Designer Consignment Rack
This incredibly happy customer scored 2 designer
Vivienne Tam dresses
By WE I mean my "dear sweet" boyfriend that definetly has the "eye" for a fantastic look, my compadre and consignment guru.. Margaret (seen above) and then of course me who has an undying amount of patience for sales reps.

There is a boutique that is truly as original as you are!
Visit the shop in Breckenridge or shop online to find your inner GLove...  :)

The language of gloves

It has been discussed in the shop that gloves are really a language of their own. I thought that was a profound statement actually. Mostly because it is so true. Take for example the styles shown here. I would enjoy hearing the messages that you think these styles are telling us!

Lending a Hand this Summer

One of the reasons I named the shop HAND AND GLOVE was to display and sell hand made products by artisans around the country.
This beautifull Silk Scarf is just such an item, there is ONLY this one. You will have to call or come into the shop for this item.  If you call I will send you several photos of the scarf so you can see up close how detailed it is.
And like I mentioned it's silk, it feels heavenly and the detail is truly exceptional.

The artist is Linda Pavian Roberts.  Here's the kicker... Linda donates 100% of her profits to the Intercultural Resource Center in Summit County. Did you see that?  100% !

It is hand died silk, the wool is a washed and dried and applied onto the silk.  It's a beautiful testiment to the femine side of fashion.
$180 no charge for shipping 970-453-0200 MST 10AM until 6 PM

To Whom It May Concern:

Enclosed please find a check for $300.00 to be used by the the Family and Intercultural Resource Center to help those in need in your area.

The check represents profits that I have made through the sale of my fiber art at Hand and Glove, a shop in Breckenridge. It is through the generosity of the owner of that business, Sheri Spurlock, that I am able to sell my work there, and then, in turn, donate my earnings to agencies in the shop’s community that help those in need.
It is my hope that this small donation will help the lives of your area’s citizens and that the generosity of this local business will be recognized by you as a valuable asset to your community.

Sincerely,
Linda Pavian Roberts

Glove Terminology

http://www.handandglove.com/browse.cfm/ladies-saddle-stitch-leather/4,260.html
Gauntlet: A very long cuff to protect the forearm.

This ladies leather glove is an excellent example of a "guantlet" style glove.  It is available in the shop today but it is so popular right now not to mention I only one or two sizes left in stock.
It does come in terrific Brown too. They are "silk" lined so they are perfect for spring and fall and those areas of the country that don't get bitter cold.
Like Texas or Florida.

I have SO many people that come through from Texas and Florida and they swear it never gets "cold enough to wear gloves", however as these gloves, there are gloves that are for protection and style/fashion as much as they are for warmth.
Not to mention a person wearing gloves instantly shows that they are disctinctive, a tad bit different, a unicorn perhaps.

Fourchette: The piece of leather sewn between the fingers on some kinds of gloves. Also known as the sidewall or gusset.
This glove shows the "fourchette" in red between the fingers.
This was a fun glove to have in stock and they too are almost gone.  I believe there are one or two sizes and/or colors left.  You can see them at the http://www.handandglove.com/ to see what we have left.
This glove was popular with the shoppers all winter.  They are cashmere lined and ultrasoft Italian leather. So stylish and warm you just may want to visit the special page on handandglove.com to see the terrific gloves on sale!  This IS one of the styles.!

MORE this weekend on Glove Terminology

The Man that started the One and Only Sale

There is probably a fair amount of you that think a "Sale" is a Sale is a Sale.... especially in the retail world.
However this One and Only Sale was a product of meeting one of my first few customer a winter of 2008,
Dr. Larry Purvis
Minister of Visitation
First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs.
Where Head & Heart Walk Hand in Hand
Dr. Purvis and his wife came in looking for some gloves. After working with them both and his wife selecting a pair they purchased her gloves and left his pair.  It was a difficult thing for he and I to justify  the charge to him for a pair of gloves in that he only really needed one.
In winter of 2009  Dr. Purvis came back to Breckenridge and stopped by to say HI and again we went through the motions of trying to select a glove for him that he felt would meet his needs; warmth, comfort, easy to put on, and not too expensive. He selected the Sermoneta Italian suede with cashmere lined glove. Now mind you this is not a cheap glove but it looked to be the perfect glove for him.
I told him "I would give him a discount and donate the other glove to the Handicap association". That's when it all started... I'd started a box right then it kept growing throughout the year. This summer I figured was a great time to give people the chance to donate that "one and only glove" and receive a new pair at an incredible discount.
Hence The Annual Dr. Purvis One and Only Sale ~

Dr. Purvis popped in the shop just the other day to say Hi and mentioned that he "got to thinking" that the VA hospital in CO Springs would be a great place for the donation; by his mention "of course" that is where we will be later this year with the first of what I hope to be many, many gloves for the people who need them.
Please take advantage of this opportunity as I want to have an overstuffed box for the hospital.

Hope your having handfuls of fun today~
Sheri
